Marco Silva is planning to give Yannick Bolasie the cold shoulder when he returns to Everton, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper’s live transfer blog (Monday, 6.25am) claims that the winger, 29, is not in Silva’s plans and “may face a frustrating spell on the sidelines for the rest of the season”.

Bolasie faces a major battle to get back into contention at Everton after terminating his season-long loan at Aston Villa on Monday.

OPINION

What a disappointment Bolasie has been at Everton since signing from Crystal Palace in 2016 for a fee the Telegraph report to be £25million, which, at the time, made him one of the club’s record buys. The wide man has conspicuously failed to live up to that price tag or his billing, although a serious knee injury meant his Goodison career never really got going. It is a measure of Bolasie’s downhill slide that he did not even rip up the Championship after taking the brave decision to move down a division last summer to reignite his career at Villa. Two goals and five assists from 21 league appearances isn’t quite what Villa expected from a £70,000-a-week attacker for whom they were paying all of his wages. It’s fair to say the Midlands giants’ bean-counters won’t shed too many tears over his departure. There are better value attacking players out there who can make a bigger impact for Dean Smith’s side.
