Everton have begun a £100million transfer purge as they look to find permanent new homes for nine of their senior players, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim the loan exit to Cardiff City of Oumar Niasse on Friday morning heralded the start of a mass overhaul of the deadwood brought in during the Farhad Moshiri era.

The Times report Morgan Schneiderlin, Cenk Tosun and loaned-out Yannick Bolasie, Sandro Ramírez, Kevin Mirallas, Cuco Martina and Nikola Vlasic and Ashley Williams are all up for sale this month amid Niasse’s exit.

OPINION

There is no doubt Everton are paying the price for the reckless spending of the past, when poor judgement from those with big reputations and mega salaries of their own has meant the Moshiri era has failed to live up to expectation. The names of those on the exit feature many signed for massive fees that they have failed to live up to for various reasons. There’s no doubt Moshiri has had poor value from most of the arrivals, and there is too much deadwood blocking the club’s path to the top-six spot they covet. Everton are finding recruiting the right staff, whether players, coaches or directors of football, to be an extremely tricky business and how they must watch enviously as Liverpool make some shrewd acquisitions on the other side of Stanley Park. The Anfield giants have the benefit of their history and prestige, but that has not always been enough in the last 30 years and owners FSG have showed they have learned from their mistakes. Can Moshiri and the current board?
