If there is one player who has not been enjoying the best of times recently at Everton, that player would definitely be Michael Keane.

The centre-back thoroughly disappointed in the 1-0 defeat to Leicester on New Year’s Day – in fact, his display did not leave much to the imagination.

With Kurt Zouma’s loan spell with the Toffees set to expire at the end of the season, signing a central defender could not be more important for Marco Silva right now.

That is why they should attempt to sign Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, who West Ham are interested in according to Calcio Mercato.

The 30-year-old has the experience to thrive at a club like the Toffees, after all, he has experience of playing in the Premier League when Hull City were still in the top-flight.

This means he could walk into Marco Silva’s starting XI with ease, especially when Zouma returns to his parent club of Chelsea.

Everton need an experienced player to steady up their defence, and by the looks of it, Ranocchia is just the person to provide that.

Given that he has not featured for Inter Milan in the current campaign, he will no doubt be seeking first team opportunities elsewhere – and that is something that Silva could promise him.

The lure of playing Premier League football should be enough to convince the enforcer to make the move to Goodison Park – and seeming as he did not impress as much as he would have liked during his first stint, there is no doubt he will want to redeem himself.

Given the poor form of Keane, attempting to redeem himself will be a lot easier than originally thought.

Keane is compromsing his place in the first team with his underwhelming displays, but with a swoop for Ranocchia, Silva can fix the team’s defensive issues in an instant.
