COMMENTARY
Chelsea attacker Willian may have scored a beautiful goal in the 2-1 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday but that didn’t save him from the wrath of a large section of supporters. Lots of Blues fans urged others not to be confused or tricked by the fact the 30-year-old winger got on the scoresheet as his overall display was not good enough. One even urged Chelsea to sell Willian right now when they put a poll for who should be named Man of the Match. While Willian did score a memorable goal, if not rare one based on his recent form, it’s clear Blues fans demand more. Willian has always had a tendency to be on the inconsistent side and you feel that has slowly seen him not among the loved figures at Stamford Bridge among the supporters. The only thing you would say in Willian’s defence is that he did get a goal that proved vital on Saturday so perhaps this wasn’t the game for fans to grab their pitchforks over.
