Former Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown was blown away by West Ham ace Felipe Anderson in the side’s 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

The playmaker, who Brown labelled as a “Rolls Royce”, went the closest to scoring in the first half but saw his effort go inches wide of the post from 18 yards out.

Despite the fact that he did not get on the scoresheet – Declan Rice claimed his first Hammers goal to seal the three points – Brown could not get enough of the summer signing for the way he caused the Gunners problems down the left-hand side.

“When Anderson really started to play who was like a Rolls Royce down that left hand side, causing all sorts of problems,” Brown said on the BBC Sport website [2.26pm].

OPINION

Anderson was certainly one of  the best player son the pitch on Saturday – with Rice no doubt a contender too after his superb goal –  so Brown is right to heap praise on the Brazilian. He may not have get on the scoresheet or provided an assist, but you cannot fault his work rate and the way he caused Arsenal problems down the left flank. The Arsenal fans will no doubt be wishing that it was their club who signed Anderson in the summer instead of the Irons based on this performance. He played like he deserved to be at a top-four Premier League club and West Ham supporters are probably counting their lucky stars that they managed to get a player of his standard on the books. The home side’s creativity and attacking prowess essentially stemmed from Anderson throughout the match, and to be honest, Arsenal were fortunate that West Ham did not win by more.
