Arsenal have tabled a £4.5million offer for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported on their live transfer blog (Monday, 7.16am) that the Gunners are working on signing the Croatia international by Thursday night after he submitted a transfer request.

Sky report Arsenal have offered a loan fee to take Perisic until the end of the season, with the option for a permanent deal in the summer for £34.5million.

Good move for Arsenal?

Perisic is a fine player who should immediately intensify competition for attacking places at Emirates Stadium. But, he turns 30 later this week and forkin out such a massive fee makes no sense, especially as Arsenal already have plenty of quality attacking talent. Is Perisic an upgrade on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil and company? Alex Iwobi is hit and miss but it is surely only a matter of time before he reaches and maybe even surpasses the level of the Croatian. The north Londoners are far better off spending their money on the two defenders they so desperately need.

Likely to happen?

The good news for Gooners eager for their club to sign Perisic is that a deal is firmly in the works, the player is pushing hard for the exit door and Arsenal already have an offer on the table. Yet, can they pull it off? That must be in considerable doubt, as Inter are reportedly holding out for a permanent transfer for one of their star men, and don’t want to wait until the summer for a blockbuster fee.
