The signs are growing that the title race between Liverpool and Manchester City will go down to the final weekend of the season.
Jurgen Klopp has built a hugely impressive squad that has nearly all bases covered as they look to end their near-three decade hunt for the league title.
One player who could add something extra to a sometimes devastating attack is the West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic.
He would add power and physical presence to a front line of super-quick, nimble and technically gifted players like Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri.
They are all from the same mould, as is back-up Daniel Sturridge. Arnautovic is no Andy Carroll. He is clever, has great feet and is quick enough to burn most centre-backs.
Liverpool’s plan A is to destroy defences with one and two-touch football by moving the ball around quickly to open up spaces.
Arnautovic is good enough to play that style. He could also be a battering ram introduced from the bench with half-an-hour remaining when the Merseysiders are chasing a late goal.
The Austria international might not be a regular starter, but he would be a brilliant bench weapon.
Moreover, the timing is perfect for Liverpool to swoop. Arnautovic is trying to engineer an exit from West Ham before 31 January as he eyes a moneyspinning move to China.
He would be far better off becoming an Anfield legend by spending a few seasons at Liverpool, first.
