Former Holland, Rangers and Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has slammed Tottenham for their treatment of Vincent Janssen.

Speaking to Voetbal International via VI.NL, Advocaat claimed the rarely-seen 24-year-old is a “complete striker” and he does not get why he’s been frozen out by Mauricio Pochettino.

“Vincent has a lot more quality than Fernando Llorente,” Advocaat told Voetbal International. “Vincent has to leave Spurs anyway. As soon as possible.

“Vincent, in my eyes it is a complete striker. He scores easily, sees the game well, he is strong and fast.

“I really wonder why Tottenham bought him at the time. They paid a fortune for a new striker, barely give him a chance and want to get rid of him after a year. I do not get it.”

OPINION

It is so long since Spurs fans saw Janssen in action, they have almost forgotten what he looks like, never mind his qualities. Pochettino confirmed this week that Tottenham will listen to offers for the Dutchman, although he was at pains to point out he respected him as a professional and stressed he had not kicked up a fuss behind the scenes over being given the cold shoulder for so long. Janssen has not played since his 2016-17 debut season, when he showed great skill at converting penalties, but did little else to suggest he was a worthy back-up to Harry Kane. Janssen has not played since, with a failed 2017-18 loan at Fenerbahce and two serious injuries disrupting a career that promised so much when Tottenham forked out £17million for him. Advocaat, currently the Utrecht manager and who managed Janssen for the Holland national side, knows the player well and his opinion is worth listening to. Despite his ringing endorsement, the striker does not look cut out for the Premier League.
