BBC journalist Adam Pope has delivered his verdict on Daniel James to Leeds, saying that “clearly the door is open for this deal” after comments made by Swansea manager Graham Potter on Monday.

Leeds have made Daniel James their number on target and a Sun report claimed that they had tabled a £10m bid for the Wales international.

Potter was asked about the deal and said that “everything is in theory possible”. He confirmed that the club was in talks and said they probably would be until the transfer deadline.

Pope said this bodes well for Leeds and said the door is open for them to conclude the deal by Thursday.

Pope made the claim on his personal Twitter page after a Leeds fans claimed the Sun article was “clickbait”.

OPINION

The Leeds fan might have been expecting Adam Pope and local journalist Phil Hay to debunk the Sun’s report, but instead both of them backed it up. Phil Hay said it wasn’t clickbait and has been saying the clubs are in discussions for days now. It does seem like all of the Leeds eggs are in this basket as far as January transfers go, however. They’re obviously confident that they can get a deal over the line, but if it doesn’t come off then they’ll have to get to the Premier League with the squad that they’ve got at the moment. That’s got them through more than half of the season on top of the league, and they’ve coped with a long injury list remarkably well. However, Leeds fans would surely prefer at least one addition to the squad. James would be a fine recruit and we’ll find out if he’s going to be a Leeds player in the next few days.
