Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has poured a jug of cold water over the reports linking his club to a £20m move for Hull winger Jarrod Bowen.

Sky Sports live transfer blog (Wednesday, 10.29am), claimed that Spurs were keen on the attacker after watching him “closely in recent matches”.

However, in his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s FA Cup game against Tranmere, Pochettino said, “I heard for the first time yesterday this name.

“How many players are in the media that are related with Tottenham and have been in the past? Hundreds of players were related with the club and never happened. I think my answer’s so clear.”

Pochettino was quoted by ESPN journalist Ben Pearce on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Poor old Jarrod Bowen. You start scoring goals in the Championship, including two against league leaders Leeds, get linked with a nice big-money move to one of the best clubs in the country, only for the manager to say he’s never heard of you. Pochettino could have said “there is nothing in it” but instead Bowen will go to sleep with images of Danny Rose googling him now. In all seriousness though, Pochettino couldn’t have refuted this rumour any harder. He might be getting fed up at being linked to players because he knows there’s no budget and Tottenham aren’t going to sign anyone. That’s the most likely outcome of this transfer window for Tottenham unfortunately. Bowen is a quality player who’s on-fire in the Championship at the moment. Hopefully, Poch’s comments will spur him onto even greater things ahead of a Premier League move in the future.
