Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has confirmed that he is ready to tear up the loan deal of winger Hadi Sacko if he can find the 24-year-old more playing time than he is getting at Las Palmas.

The Malian winger was shipped out temporarily for the season in the summer transfer window but has found regular action hard to come by at the Spanish islanders, with just five appearances in the second tier.

Speaking about whether Sacko could return to Elland Road, Orta confirmed he would be open to ending his loan spell away early if he could find a club where the two-cap forward would play more.

He told Spanish newspaper La Provincia: “If we find a team that has more minutes, we want it and leave the island (Gran Canaria).”

Opinion

What Orta is saying makes perfect sense and you can imagine that Sacko would be on board with the director of football’s approach. Leeds want the winger to be playing as much football as possible while out on loan and the player himself obviously does not want to be warming the bench – or even totally left out of the side – at his loan club. If Orta can find the 24-year-old a move elsewhere, where game time is going to be more frequent, then it is a move which suits all parties involved. The question is should Leeds be making his next move a permanent exit, or does he have something to offer the Whites? His record in the Championship is bang average and there is little chance he would improve that were he to return this month nor in the summer – when Leeds could well be building for a return to the Premier League. Sacko’s future at Las Palmas looks bleak but so does his career at Elland Road.
