Nottingham Forest CEO Ioannis Vrentzos has contacted Rangers as the English club aims to recall Joe Worrall from his loan spell at Ibrox, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper has claimed that the Scottish giants have rejected Forest’s request to have their defender back after a recall clause inserted in the loan agreement was made invalid.

Worrall, 22, has become a key player at Ibrox, appearing 17 times in all competitions this season, and his role in Steven Gerrard’s first team means that Forest are unable to recall him unless they can reach an agreement with Rangers and the player.

OPINION

It is good job that Rangers got that recall cut-off inserted in the deal to sign Worrall because it would leave Gerrard with quite a headache for the rest of January, given how key the on-loan defender has been this season. Him and Connor Goldson have been Gerrard’s go-to centre-back pairing for most of the campaign, so to break that up on the verge of the winter break ending would be a bit of an issue. Martin O’Neill has inherited a defensive crisis at the City Ground, so you cannot blame the English Championship club for wanting Worrall back. Michael Dawson, Michael Hefele and Tobias Figueiredo are all injured while Danny Fox is serving a suspension and Jack Robinson is also close to a ban. Worrall would have been straight into their starting line-up if Forest could recall him, but luckily, he is in line to play against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park next week instead.
