Respected journalist Alan Nixon has suggested that West Brom assistant coach Graeme Jones is happy at the club and is not interested in taking over the vacant manager’s post at Luton Town.

The 48-year-old has been linked with a move to Kenilworth Road, as reported by the Express and Star, since namesake Nathan Jones left the League One side to take over at Stoke City.

But Nixon, writing on his personal Twitter, has suggested that the former Belgium assistant coach is not about to leave the Hawthorns just yet.

Responding to one follower, he said: “Clearly first choice. But doesn’t seem to be too keen. At this point.”

OPINION

Nixon’s relative surety over Jones’ future will be a huge source of comfort for West Brom fans. The assistant coach is a key part of Darren Moore’s coaching staff, and bringing him in after such a successful World Cup with Belgium was a massive coup for the Baggies. Albion are on the cusp of promotion this season, and will look to mount a serious assault in the second half of the campaign, and the last thing they need would be to lose such a key backroom figure at such a crucial juncture. It really feels as if Moore is building something at the Hawthorns, with shrewd signings and a positive outlook, and he will want Jones to stick around for as long as possible. It is testament to the man’s skill as a coach, however, that he is being linked with the big job at a club who are on the up like Luton Town.
