Leeds United are going to make a “proper” bid for Swansea winger Daniel Hames “now”, according to the Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon.

The chase for James has been going on for weeks now, with Leeds making him their number one target, but seemingly unable to agree a fee.

The latest report suggested that Swansea were holding out for £12million.

Now, Nixon claims that Leeds will table a bid but that it won’t match the £12million valuation. However, he also said “it won’t be small either” and ends with a very optimistic “so that one isn’t over”.

OPINION

Nixon doesn’t say how much the Leeds bid is going to be but we’d imagine it would have to be in the £4.5m-£5million range. Swansea might be holding out for £12million but they’re never going to get that much for their winger and they do need to sell players and get their wage bill down. Would Leeds go as high as £6million if that’s what it would take to seal the deal? It’s unlikely, although he is their number one target and Marcelo Bielsa is very keen on him. That’s a lot of money though and we think £5million is a fair price. There’s not much time left in the transfer window and this one was always going to be a game of brinksmanship. Leeds look like they’re finally ready to make their move but we doubt it will be as easy as Swansea accepting their first offer. This one is set to rumble on and on until Thursday.
