Newcastle United are eyeing a potential deal for Everton attacker Yannick Bolasie, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Saturday [12:35pm] that the 29-year-old has told the Toffees that he wants to quit Goodison Park this month and join another Premier League club.

Bolasie took the decision to tear up his loan deal at Aston Villa at the start of this week, something that left Everton were far from happy with the DR Congo international.

It is now understood that Newcastle, Burnley, Cardiff and Crystal Palace are monitoring “a potential deal”.

Good move for Newcastle?

Bolasie hardly set the world alight while he was on loan at Villa.

He only managed to make nine Championship starts for the West Midlands club, however that could have easily been down to his lack of fitness more than his sub-par form.

Newcastle need to be signing players that can stay fit for the rest of the season and most importantly, they need players who are an upgrade on what Rafa Benitez already has at his disposal.

Nothing about Bolasie’s loan spell at Villa Park has suggested he is either of them.

Likely to happen?

The Mirror does not say anything about a loan deal, but Newcastle are unlikely to be signing players on a permanent basis from their Premier League rivals this month due to Mike Ashley’s tight grip on the club’s finances.

The Magpies would be unable to sign another domestic-based player on loan anyway having already got Kenedy and Salomon Rondon on temporary deals at the club.

If Bolasie is available on a very cheap permanent deal then there is a chance that this could happen, but it does not look at all likely.
