Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign Hull captain Markus Henriksen, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Thursday [10:53am] that Leicester are also interested in signing the 26-year-old Norway international, who is valued at £5million by the in-form Championship club.

It is understood that Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have tabled three offers for Henriksen so far, with the highest of those reaching up to £3million.

The Sun adds that Henriksen’s contract expires in the summer.

Good move for Newcastle?

Henriksen has been in top form for Hull this season, appearing 25 times in the Championship and scoring two goals in the process.

He has played a major role in helping Nigel Adkins’ side put themselves into contention for a spot in the play-offs this season with a stunning run of form during the festive period.

However £5million is a lot of money for someone who could be available for free in the summer when his contract ends.

Newcastle could do with an extra body added to the centre of their midfield, but only if it’s a good deal.

Likely to happen?

It is now deadline day and the transfer window slams shut at 11pm, so Newcastle will have to move fast if they want to wrap up a deal.

The Sun’s report does not suggest that the Magpies have made any kind of move for the midfielder, so this one might come up again in the summer if the player becomes a free agent.
