Sky Sports pundit Kenny Miller has claimed that Glen Kamara will want to wrap up a permanent move to Rangers before the end of January rather than waiting to join them in the summer.

Rangers agreed a pre-contract deal with the Dundee midfielder earlier this month, but he will not be able to play for the Glasgow giants until his deal at Dens Park expires at the end of the season.

However the Daily Star has reported that Steven Gerrard wants to reach an agreement with Dundee to sign the Finland international earlier than what is currently planned, and ex-Gers star Miller believes that is something that could happen.

“Knowing the boy he’ll probably want to get it done,” Miller said, as quoted by the Express.

“He’ll want to get that first four or five months with his new club, new team-mates and get a feel of the place.

“Will he go straight into the team? No.

“[Steven] Davis and Defoe, they will absolutely go straight into the team, they’ve been there, they’ve done it.

“It needs to work for the club. There’s no doubt there’ll be one eye on the move already.

“I think for all parties, it probably does suit if a deal can be done now.”

OPINION

Miller is bound to have a good idea about what Kamara wants to do as he is currently a team-mate of the Finland international at Dundee. It might be difficult for the ex-Arsenal midfielder to get into Gerrard’s first team plans at Ibrox, but leaving the club that is rooted to the bottom of the table to join a club fighting for the title is a no-brainer. Kamara won’t want a relegation on his CV. Even if it means sitting on the bench, or just being a squad player at Ibrox, he would prefer that to struggling at Dundee. Pre-contract transfers are no good for the club that is losing the player. Not only will Dundee not get a penny for Kamara, they will also be hanging on to a player that knows he is leaving in a matter of months, and that isn’t good for anyone. It’s in everyone’s best interests for the 23-year-old to join Rangers in the next two weeks.
