Unbelievable scenes at St James’ Park as Newcastle United pull off one of the biggest shocks of the season against Manchester City – and no wonder the Etihad faithful were left fuming over a dire display from Danilo. The full back has been solid, if unremarkable, this season for Pep Guardiola but Tuesday night saw him put in one of the worst performances of his career against a side battling at the bottom of the table. There are certain standards that need to be met by City players and the 27-year-old simply did not live up to expectations. His place in the side is partly forced by Benjamin Mendy’s departure and you can be sure that after this outing the Frenchman’s return will mean the axe for his defensive counterpart. His performance was one of a number of disappointing outings from the City side but really he offered nothing to suggest he deserved to be starting on Tyneside. Is this the end of the title race? Liverpool’s clash on Wednesday could be the decisive moment now.
