Gary Lineker has heaped praise on young Leeds sensation Jack Clarke after a stunning performance against Derby in the Championship.

Clarke was involved in both goals in an impressive 2-0 win, making the assist for Kemar Roofe’s opener, and then putting in a great cross that was pulled back for Jack Harrison to put the ball into an empty net.

Lineker was moved to Twitter where he said, “Not the first Clarke to strut his stuff at Elland Road, but Jack Clarke looks a player. Another talented young English footballer born in 2000.”

Lineker posted the tweet to his personal Twitter account during the second half of the game.

Leeds stay top of the league after the win.

OPINION

What a night for Jack Clarke. The really impressive thing about his performance is that this was his first league start tonight for Leeds. Manager Marcelo Bielsa has talked about managing the youngster and he seems to have done that to perfection. We don’t think there’s any putting the genie back in the bottle now though. Clarke wasn’t at all bowed by the occasion or the opposition and took the ball to Derby at every opportunity. Getting a tweet from Gary Lineker will be the cherry on top of a MOTM performance for the youngster tonight. The one bad thing is that if people weren’t aware of Clarke, they will be now. It was already reported that several Premier League teams are readying bids for the young attacker. If they needed any more encouragement, they’ll have got it and then some tonight. Leeds desperately won’t want to lose Clarke and hopefully the youngster has his head screwed on properly. Staying at Leeds and working under Bielsa is definitely the best thing the young player can do at the moment, and hopefully he’ll be strutting his stuff in the Premier League with Leeds next season.
