Leeds United appear to have missed out on signing Willem II goal machine Fran Sol after the Spanish forward was reported to have agreed terms with Dynamo Kiev.

Dutch newspaper BD has claimed that the 26-year-old will sign a five-year deal with the Ukrainian giants, which surely serves as a killer blow in Leeds’ reported hunt to sign him.

According to TeamTalk, Leeds were among a number of clubs interested in signing Sol with Rangers, Celtic, Burnley and Huddersfield also keeping tabs on the former Real Madrid striker.

He has been in red-hot form for Willem II this season, scoring a whopping 17 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions for the Dutch club.

However it looks as though his spell in the Netherlands is coming to an end, but he will be headed to Eastern Europe rather than West Yorkshire.

It is a great shame that director of football Victor Orta was unable to sign Sol.

Marcelo Bielsa could do with reinforcements in his attack and with Sol’s contract at Willem II expiring at the end of the season, it’s pretty clear that the prolific forward would have been a bargain buy for the Whites.

Leeds fans should be furious that they failed to land Sol as it is pretty clear that Bielsa’s squad is just one or two injuries away from a serious crisis.

Patrick Bamford and Izzy Brown have been injured for what seems like the whole season and Tyler Roberts has also had his injury woes since joining United from West Brom last January.

Kemar Roofe is Leeds’ top scorer with 14 league goals this term, and he has also had a spell on the sidelines this season with a calf injury.

In the six games where Roofe was injured, the Whites one just twice.

Without Roofe, and without any back-up for Roofe, Leeds will be in trouble so Sol would have been a major boost to their attack as they aim to win promotion to the Premier League.

He has been scoring goals for fun in Holland.

There’s no doubt that he would have done the same in the Championship.
