OPINION
From the Bernabeu to Tadcaster. It’s been some week for Kiko Casilla after Leeds United signed the goalkeeper from Real Madrid, and he was given a raw first taste of English football by playing for the Whites’ Under-23s against Southampton on Monday night. Leeds’ youth side won the Premier League Cup game 3-2, and some supporters gave Casilla the seal of approval after his first appearance in wearing the Yorkshire club’s colours. However there were some who were a bit concerned about the Spaniard’s display, especially because he was beaten twice by Southampton’s young players. Obviously there is going to be criticism about goalkeepers if they concede a couple of goals, but you have to be a bit more lenient with Casilla making his debut in a very strange setting for him. He will definitely get into the starting line-up soon to replace Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Fans need to be fully behind him when that happens.

I hate to disparage any footballer because there are lots of contributing factors as to why anyone looks good or bad in any given run of matches but in all honesty I never rated Blackman from watching him in the U23s. Casilla looks like an upgrade in every sense. #lufc

Casilla showed good handling but not sure about his distribution with his feet.

Casilla did exactly what he had to do. Flat at the very first crufts then solid thereafter.
