West Ham could look to reignite their hunts for Wissam Ben Yedder and Moussa Marega as they face the possibility of having to replace Marko Arnautovic this month, according to journalist Sam Inkersole.

The football.london reporter has claimed on his personal Twitter account that there are already four names reportedly being chased by the Hammers in the shape of Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud and Benfica’s Luka Jovic, and has tipped the Irons to look at Sevilla’s Ben Yedder and Porto’s Moussa Marega again.

Sapo Desporto reported in 2018 that the Hammers failed in a move for Marega over the summer while the Guardian linked Ben Yedder with a move to east London back in 2016 and with Arnautovic’s future up in the air, a move the China heavily speculated, it appears as though a new striker hunt is on the cards.

Opinion

West Ham are going to have one of the hardest jobs in world football in trying to replace Arnautovic this month, not only because the Austrian is a rare talent but also the fact that rival clubs are going to be highly reluctant to sell up in the middle of the season. The Hammers talisman has everything when it comes to being a striker, from incredible strength to a burst of pace and not to mention a keen eye for goal. Finding someone who ticks all those boxes is difficult, not to mention costly, so it will be a real gamble if they do let him leave this month. Of those mentioned by Inkersole, Wilson seems to have the same range of attributes as a proven Premier League goalscorer, Mitrovic and Giroud more like Andy Carroll in their target man moulds. Marega is quite a powerful frontman while Ben Yedder relies more on his pace and so finding the right balance is going to be a real challenge for Manuel Pellegrini.
