Zlatan Ibrahimovic has urged Harry Kane to leave Tottenham so that he can win trophies at a bigger club.

The veteran Swede is an admirer of the England captain, but has suggested that he needs to consider a move if he is to be remembered as a great of the game.

Speaking to the Mirror, the 37-year-old said: “When I was in England, I saw him play. I think he is a good striker. He’s still developing, he’s doing good things.

“But I always say, playing in a big club, performing good is different from playing in… with all respect to Tottenham , a ‘normal’ club.

“I think he can make it. He just needs to make the move, and people will remember you for what you win. So if he wants to win, then yes, I think he needs to change.”

OPINION

Ibra’s comments will not go down too well with Spurs fans, but they will know in their heart of hearts that he is right about Kane. The England captain has the potential to go down in history as one of the greats of the modern era, but he has to start winning trophies, and at the moment, he is not doing that with Tottenham. Kane himself is loyal andclealry adores the club, but there must come a point in his career where he will look and ask whether he could be achieving more elsewhere. Tottenham might start winning trophies, and that would certainly be the best way to alleviate any doubts that Kane or the fans might have, but unless they do, there are going to have to be some serious decisions made in the near future. Ultimately it will come down to where Kane’s priorities lie. Is he interested in personal glory and building a fierce legacy, or is his sole priority ensuring that Spurs one day reach their potential?
