Hibernian have approached Celtic with a view to signing winger Lewis Morgan, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that Neil Lennon wants the 22-year-old as a short-term replacement for Martin Boyle, who is currently injured.

It is understood that St Mirren are also interested in their former player, who has only made 13 appearances in all competitions since joining the Hoops from the Buddies for £300,000 (BBC Sport) last January.

Good move for Celtic?

Morgan needs first team football otherwise his development is going to stall and his spell at Parkhead will end up being a waste of everyone’s time.

The Scotland international was superb for St Mirren last term, but he has really struggled for opportunities under Brendan Rodgers and he is yet to even start a domestic fixture for the Hoops.

He would get plenty of game-time for Hibs while Boyle is injured and Celtic know that Lennon will look after the winger.

It should be a move that Celtic are just as interested in finalising as the Edinburgh club are.

Likely to happen?

Although Hibs are one of Celtic’s top-flight rivals, there should not be an issue with Rodgers allowing Morgan to join them on a temporary basis.

If it is in the best interests of all parties involved then there’s no reason why this deal shouldn’t go through.

Oliver Burke’s arrival at Parkhead could push Morgan down the pecking order, so it makes sense.
