Leeds have been working on getting a goalkeeper into the club this week, but it won’t be Southampton’s Fraser Forster, according to Phil Hay.

The ever-reliable senior reporter from the Yorkshire Evening Post made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Thursday evening.

He said definitively that Leeds “will get a keeper” and confirmed the activity this week, after the Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon had said that Victor Orta had been “active” in the past few days.

Hay didn’t name the keeper that Leeds were working on but did categorically rule out Forster.

OPINION

Leeds will get a goalkeeper in January, this much seems certain. But it won’t be Fraser Forster, who has been told he’s surplus to requirements by Southampton. The one thing that we have heard is that Marcelo Bielsa wants a keeper who’s good with his feet and that Karl Darlow was reported to the the number one choice. A deal for Darlow seemed to hit the skids when Newcastle were digging in for a £4million fee, with Leeds wanting a loan, but that could still be alive. Other keepers that have been linked include Tom Heaton and Joe Hart from Burnley, and Fabri from Fulham. Leeds fans want more than just a keeper but they will be relieved when this first bit of business is done. We’re not sure why Leeds have left it so late when Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman broke his leg in November. You would have thought a deal could have been done at the start of January, instead it’s dragging on and Leeds have still brought no one in. It sounds like the first recruit could be made quite soon, though.
