Leeds United are unlikely to be docked points, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

Leeds fans are worried about the ongoing EFl/FA investigations into the conduct of their manager Marcelo Bielsa after he admitted to sending employees to watch their opponents train.

One supporter asked Hay for an update, saying that the furore wasn’t helping Leeds’ season.

Hay said he had “spoken to a lot of people and no-one seems to be talking about a points deduction.”

He concluded by saying that it “doesn’t sound likely”.

OPINION

Hay doesn’t say who he’s spoken to but he has exceptional contacts in the game and we imagine that when he says he’s spoken to a “lot of people” that at least some will be connected with the EFL investigation. This is good news for Leeds, although we never thought a points deduction would be likely. With no official rule having been broken, a points deduction would be a draconian punishment that would likely open a legal hornets’ nest. A fine would be too much in our book. Instead, a talking to, reminding Leeds of their duties to themselves and other teams in the Championship, would surely suffice. Way too much has been made of the incidents and if the authorities really want to clean up the game the should focus on what goes on on the pitch week in, week out. Watching someone train from a public space is the last of their worries.
