Phil Hay has delivered his verdict on potential new Leeds signing Mateusz Bogusz and said he can see him in the number 10 spot “lighting the whole place up” towards the end of the season.

Talking on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road podcast, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay was discussing the expected upcoming move of Polish 17-year-old Bogusz.

He is expected to move to Elland Road to hook up with the development squad at first but Hay, who said “his YouTube clips look quite good” has said he can see him playing for the first-team before the season is out.

“He’s not a man, he’s a 17-year-old but his YouTube clips look quite good.

“He was at Thorp Arch last week, Brighton have been very keen on him and Napoli tried to get him on trial last season.

“He’s going to join up with the development squad so I was going to say it could be a long time before we see him, but quite honestly, with Leeds at the moment there are no boundaries.

“By the time Leeds are wrapping their season up he’s in at number 10 with Hernandez lighting the whole place up.”

OPINION

Many people have had good things to say about Bogusz and there’s no better place to come as a young player than to Leeds at the moment. You’ve got an elite manager in Marcelo Bielsa, who’s more than happy to give young players a shot in the first-team if he thinks they’re good enough. The Under-23s are well looked after by Carlos Corberan and Leeds are overwhelming favourites to win automatic promotion to the Premier League this season. Given all of that, it’s perhaps no surprise that Leeds have punched above their weight here and are set to sign the youngster over Premier League Brighton. In Mateusz Klich, Bogusz has a Polish compatriot who can take him under his wings and show him the ropes. It might not be the marquee signing that Leeds fans are looking for, but Bogusz could turn out to be a big surprise if Hay’s prediction comes true towards the end of the season.
