Celtic are set to announce the signing of Andrew Gutman imminently, according to the Daily Record.

In their live transfer blog (11.02am) they claim that Gutman was at Celtic Park to watch the 4-0 win against St Mirren last night.

Celtic will announce his capture imminently and then the report claims he “is due to be paraded by his new club”.

Celtic beat Chicago Fire to his signature and the 22-year-old will become Brendan Rodgers’ latest January signing.

OPINION

After signing three attacking players, with another one, Maryan Shved in the pipeline (although Rodgers didn’t sound too keen about him last night) Celtic fans will be glad to see a defender signing. He’s a left-back which will still see Celtic short of a right-back and fans will be desperately hoping that Rodgers can find one before the transfer window shuts next week. Some of the pressure was lifted off Celtic after their impressive 4-0 win against St Mirren with new signing, young forward Timothy Weah, on target again. With Rangers losing to Kilmarnock, Celtic now have three points and a game in hand on their rivals. Their new striker, Jermain Defoe, got off to a fast start, scoring after just 12 minutes on his competitive debut, but it wasn’t enough to save his side from defeat. Gutman has already played for the Hoops in a friendly and will now look to make an impact in the first-team.
