Rangers are on the brink of their fifth January signing, as confirmed by Steven Gerrard on Tuesday morning.
Talking in the pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s clash against Kilmarnock on Wednesday, Gerrard said that Polster would join if he secured a work permit.
The 25-year-old right-back made 91 appearances for MLS side Chicago Fire and broke through into the USA senior side last year.
He played 90 minutes in the friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2018.
Gerrard was quoted by PA journalist Andy Newport.

OPINION
Rangers must be very confident that they will get a work permit for Matt Polster, although nothing will be certain until the paperwork is signed. They had him on trial and then reports suggested he was flying into Glasgow on Monday to finalise the deal. From what Gerrard has said, that will now be confirmed once the work permit has been secured. It will be his fifth signing of the January transfer window that will have left Rangers fans very excited about the second-half of the season. They’ve completely out-bought Celtic and the signings of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis in particular has meant that the run-in for the Premiership title should be the most competitive in years. This is brilliant news for everyone, barring Celtic. The league has been a procession for too long and neutrals will relish a new competitive rivalry between Celtic and Rangers. If Rangers do upset the balance and qualify for the Champions League, it could be a game-changer.
