Everton are in the hunt to sign exit-bound Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Thursday [12:23pm] that New York City, West Ham, Newcastle and Southampton have also shown an interest in signing the 29-year-old, who is in the final six months of his contract at Anfield.

It is understood that Sturridge appears to be “on his way out” of Liverpool, having only earned two Premier League starts for the title contenders this season.

Good move for Everton?

There is always one question when it comes to Sturridge – can he stay fit?

West Brom asked that question last January and thought he would be a worthy signing in their bid to avoid relegation.

They reportedly paid Liverpool a loan fee and covered his £120,000-a-week wages (Spotrac), but he only managed six appearances for them as they dropped into the Championship.

He has stayed fit since returning to Merseyside, but it is too great a risk for Everton to sign him when there are surely other, more reliable, options out there.

Likely to happen?

The Sun reports that MLS side New York City are favourites to sign Sturridge at this stage, and due to the fact he plays for Everton’s bitter rivals, you cannot see this move happening.

No one in the Premier League should be signing the England international after his spell at West Brom last season reminded everyone that he is too much of an expensive risk.
