It never really worked out for Andre Gomes at Barcelona, hence his current loan move to Everton, and against Southampton on Saturday afternoon Toffees fans might just have got a glimpse of why the Portuguese international never made a mark at Camp Nou. For much of the game against the Saints, Gomes looked off the pace, lethargic, and incapable of completing even the most simple of passes. He has impressed during his time at Goodison Park, but the concern will be that he lacks any real consistency, and when are a club are in a precarious run of form like Everton are, they need players they can depend on. Marco Silva has a decision to make at the end of the season as to whether he wants to spend big to keep Gomes or not, and if the 25-year-old puts in a few more performances like the one he did against Southampton, that choice will be a whole lot easier. Still, at least the Everton faithful know there is a lot more to come from their Portuguese maestro.
