COMMENTARY
To say that things went from bad to worse for Everton on Tuesday night when it comes to their left back options would be the understatement of the year – and we are only in January. Not only did Leighton Baines hobble off with an injury in his first start for some time but Lucas Digne then went and got himself sent off for a professional foul just over 10 minutes after stepping onto the pitch. With both now set to be missing for their next game the Goodison Park faithful have been calling for the return of Cuco Martina, who is currently out on loan from the Toffees at Championship side Stoke City. It remains to be seen how bad Baines’ injury problem is and it seems highly unlikely that Marco Silva will be making any calls for the 29-year-old Curacao international any time soon. It goes to show how quickly things can change it football and no Everton fan would have thought that they would be calling for Cuco’s return at the start of the season.
