Sir Kenny Daglish has claimed that Tottenham have the ability to win the Premier League title this season.

Spurs dropped down to third place on Saturday after their shock 3-1 defeat to Wolves, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men haveĀ been impressive this term and have shown flashes of title-winning ability.

However their major issue is that Liverpool have simply been too good and Jurgen Klopp’s side sit seven points clear of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the table.

Anfield legend Dalglish knows that the unbeaten Reds have a fight on their hands to win their first Premier League title, and sees Spurs and City as their main rivals.

“There is no way I would write off Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. They are both fantastic teams and have it in them to go on and win this league,” Dalglish said on the Sunday Post website.

“Of course, Liverpool face going to the Etihad Stadium on Thursday and that will be a massive test.

“But there is more pressure on Pep Guardiola and his players to win the game.”

OPINION

Dalglish is not wrong. To think that Liverpool will run away with the league and win it at this stage of the season is a dangerous thought. The Reds have the ability to implode at any point and suffer a poor run of form like Man City did over December. All it takes is a couple of injuries or a poor decision by a referee to end their unbeaten streak. Tottenham have been superb this term even though their pre-season preparations were interrupted by the World Cup, they didn’t make any signings in the summer and have had a lot of injuries to deal with. They will be without Heung-min Son later this month due to the Asian Cup and while Pochettino’s side should be able to cope without the South Korea international, to be without him is a blow. It will be interesting to see if Spurs can sign any players this month, but it will also be interesting to see if they can continue to play well once they move into their new stadium.
