BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has praised Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen’s performance against Cardiff City on Tuesday.

The Denmark international grabbed Spurs’ second goal in their 3-0 victory over the Bluebirds on New Year’s Day, and Crooks was seriously impressed by the midfielder, including him in his Team of the Week.

“This was like taking candy from a baby,” he wrote on the BBC Sport website. “It was less of a knockout blow by Spurs and more like a series of blows that did Cardiff in.

“Christian Eriksen seemed to run out of steam against Wolves, but somehow recovered in time to face the Bluebirds. Spurs have got to rid themselves of this Jekyll and Hyde personality. We need to know what team is turning up every week.”

OPINION

Eriksen did appear to be back to his best for Spurs against Cardiff on Tuesday. He, like many of his team mates, faded late on in the defeat to Wolves, but he was in amongst the thick of things once again against Neil Warnock’s team. His goal was a lovely strike. He did really well to work a bit of space for himself on the edge of the box, before steering the ball home at the near post. Neil Etheridge could do nothing about it in the Cardiff goal. It was a moment of genius that we have become all too used to seeing from the former Ajax man. Tottenham fans must seriously be worrying about the 26-year-old’s future with the club, with the player yet to sign an extension to his contract which runs out at the end of next season. Tuesday’s performance was yet another reminder of what Spurs would be missing if Eriksen ever leaves the club.
