West Bromwich Albion winger Matt Phillips has remained in England while his team mates have jetted to Dubai in order to receive treatment for an ankle injury, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Scotland international will be treated away from his team mates, who have left for some warm weather training.

The 27-year-old suffered the knock prior to the Baggies’ draw with fellow Championship high flyers Norwich City on Saturday, and the club are scrambling to try and ensure he’s fit for the team’s clash with Bolton Wanderers a week on Monday.

Phillips’ fellow Scotsman James Morrison also missed the Canaries contest through injury, but he has travelled with the first team squad to Dubai.

OPINION

This is a bit concerning for West Brom fans. Having lost influential attacker Harvey Barnes this week after he was recalled by parent club Leicester City they won’t want to be without Phillips moving forward as well. Hopefully the setback was just a minor one which caused him to miss the Norwich game only, but he won’t know until he’s received treatment. Phillips has been an important player for the Baggies this campaign and so Darren Moore will be praying he’s back fit as soon as possible. The news that Morrison has traveled is obviously positive, as it indicates that his injury isn’t serious, but Phillips’ absence from Dubai is a real concern for the club. If West Brom are trying to ensure Phillips is fit for Bolton then it indicates that this isn’t a long term worry for the winger. However, until he is confirmed in the squad to face the Trotters there will be some nervous faces at the Hawthorns.
