Aston Villa are still in the hunt for Le Havre defender Harold Moukoudi after seeing a summer hunt fall short, according to France Football.

The French outlet report that Villa are still interested in a deal for the 21-year-old centre-back, who is out of contract in the summer with the Ligue 2 side and could leave this month. a

France Football claim that Bundesliga sides Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund are now showing strong interest in a deal, while Ligue 1 sides Lyon and Rennes also in the hunt.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Absolutely.

Moukoudi is one of the most sought-after young players in France at the moment, with the 6ft 3in enforcer [Transfermarkt] looking like he has a bright future ahead of him.

It was a surprise when he remained at Le Havre in the summer, with the club only in the second division of French football, and it is inevitable he will end up elsewhere soon enough.

Villa would do extremely well to snap up the young star either on the cheap in January or for free in the summer, with Dean Smith in need of further defensive reinforcements.

Likely to happen?

It looks like Moukoudi will definitely move on from Le Havre soon enough, with the club sitting in tenth in Ligue 2 and looking a way away from promotion.

The youngster will no doubt end up at a top club after his move, and Villa are certainly in with a shout, but may need to be back in the Premier League in the summer to strengthen their claim.

With clubs like Wolfsburg and Dortmund lurking, the lure of the top-flight in Germany may be too much.
