Tottenham are “very strongly interested” in signing Leeds United sensation Jack Clarke, according to a reliable journalist.

Daily Mirror correspondent David Anderson reported on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that the Premier League big guns “accept” that the Championship leaders don’t want to sell the winger, 18, this month.

But Anderson claimed Spurs “will continue to monitor” Clarke as he hinted at a summer pursuit of the player who attracted a rebuffed enquiry from Crystal Palace last week.

OPINION

In some ways, this is an encouraging update for United fans. It appears their club’s prize asset, who reportedly is valued at £15million after just two league starts, will remain at Elland Road at least until the end of the season. Will he still be at Leeds next season? That’s anybody’s guess, and depends upon a variety of factors – how he performs in the second half of the season, whether Leeds get promoted and whether he agrees an extension to the contract he signed when he turned professional in November 2017. There must be a concern as to the club’s chances of hanging on to the most talented player to emerge from the club’s youth set-up since Lewis Cook, now at Bournemouth. Leeds have cashed in on all their major playing assets in recent years and tend to cave in pretty much as soon as pound notes are waved under the nostrils of the board. Maybe, United fans should just enjoy Clarke while they can. He is certainly a special talent.
