It looks like Leeds will beat Premier League side Brighton to the deal for Ruch Chorzów attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The move was reported for the first time earlier today, before Ruch Chorzów announced that a bid from Leeds had been accepted on its official Twitter page.

It is now expected that the transfer will get done shortly, with Bogusz having visited Thorp Arch last week.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have now reported that Leeds had lined up the transfer and beaten Brighton to the player, after Serie A side Napoli had tried to take him on trial last season.

Earlier reports had suggested that Bogusz would train with the first-team, but the YEP report that he would, initially at least, hook up with the Under-23s.

There’s growing excitement about his transfer with, among others, a former Leeds academy scout claiming he is one of the most promising young players in Poland.

OPINION

Impressive stuff from Leeds. It sounds like the deal is all but done and that the attacker has chosen to come to Leeds over Brighton. You can chalk that down to a combination of Marcelo Bielsa, the close links between the Under-23s and the first-team and the fact that Leeds are on the brink of a return to the Premier League. Is there a better club to go to at the moment if you’re a young player? There’s certainly no club willing to promote youth and get the most from them. Jack Clarke has to be the best example, but he’s not the only one who’s been trusted to play for the senior side in such a crucial period. Mauricio Pochettino has a similar reputation in the Premier League and it’s no surprise that he’s taken a lot of inspiration from Bielsa. Clubs like Chelsea could do with taking a leaf out of his book. Bogusz might be a name for the future, but if the excitement around him turns into talent on the pitch, he could be knocking on the first-team door fairly quickly.
