When it comes to forwards at Aston Villa this season all the talk has been on star man Tammy Abraham – and understandably so.

The Chelsea loanee has been in brilliant form for the midlands outfit, continuing where he left off with Bristol City in the Championship to score a load of goals and fire the club towards the top end of the table.

Of course there has been plenty of speculation over Abraham’s future during the January transfer window but it appears manager Dean Smith has got his eyes on another Villa man right now – Andre Green.

The Sun claim that the boss is planning on bringing the 20-year-old back to the club after his performances at Portsmouth this season – with five goals from the wing – and that a decision on if and how they will recall him to the first team squad will be made next week.

While Smith is believed to hope Green can bring pace and trickery to the side, a return would not bode well for the future of Scott Hogan, a striker who has seen seriously limited game time this season.

His 72 minutes against Swansea in the FA Cup – a game in which he passed up a handful of chances as he led the line – was more game time than the 26-year-old had picked up in his six Championship appearances combined.

After such a dire display, it should come as no surprise to see that Green is wanted back and Smith’s desires put Hogan’s chances of more first team football under serious threat.

With a decision over the Portsmouth loanee said to be made next week, the current option at the manager’s disposal is surely heading into the last chance saloon to keep his place among the first team and even possibly at the club.

Villa could do with some money and offloading an unwanted forward for a decent transfer fee would give them cash to splash of their own.

Nothing appears set in stone, but Hogan needs to do something to nail down his spot at Villa Park.
