Lewis Baker is set to undergo a medical at Reading in the next 24 hours as he prepares to cut short his loan spell at Leeds United, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim Baker’s parent club Chelsea are set to activate the recall option on the attacking midfielder’s season-long loan and agree terms with another Championship club.

Football Insider report the Premier League giants are in advanced talks with Reading over a deal for the 23-year-old that will run for the rest of the campaign.

Good move for Leeds?

Yes. Baker has failed to make much of an impact at Elland Road this season despite being named in the matchday 18 for all 26 of the club’s Championship matches to date. He has had just two starts and failed to climb up the pecking order despite the recent loan exit of Samuel Saiz and a series of serious injuries to senior players. It appears Marcelo Bielsa has been unconvinced by the former England Under-21 international, who arrived as one of three loan signings from Chelsea along with Izzy Brown and Jamal Blackman. None of the trio have made any impression at Leeds, the former duo mainly because of injury, and the Championship leaders will be glad to get Baker’s salary off their wage bill.

Likely to happen?

Yes. Football Insider broke the news early on Tuesday evening that Baker’s loan deal was set to be terminated, which was followed up by the national press within a few hours. The revelation that he is set to join Reading is sure to be spot-on. Expect an announcement later today if there are no issues with the medical or paperwork.
