OPINION
Aston Villa continue to be the most mystifying side in the Championship when it comes to their form. Every week is like a lottery for the Villans, and it is difficult, if not impossible, to tell which side is going to turn up from one match to the next. Against Hull City on Saturday afternoon, they somehow managed to be both at their worst and their best. After a shocking start saw them 2-0 down at half time they came bouncing back to draw 2-2, but no thanks to Conor Hourihane. The Irishman may have got the assist for Villa’s first, but he looked like a passenger for much of the match against the Tigers, and was completely out of his depth for much of the game – which the fans on Twitter made very clear. Whether he is playing too deep is a matter of discussion, but when he is failing to do the fundamentals, his issues are clearly more than a case of poor tactics from his manager. Hourihane must improve or face the brunt not only of the supporters’ fury but the anger of Dean Smith as well.

We need someone with some steel in front of the back 4. Hourihane is so lightweight. #AVFC

My patience with Hourihane is beginning to wear thin

Need to change the system. It’s like playing with 10 men with Hourihane not bothering to get involved #avfc
