Bristol City are likely to cash in on Callum O’Dowda if Leeds United offer between £8million and 10million, according to the Bristol Post.

The south-west publication claim the Robins will have a “tough decision to make” if the Championship leaders table a “decent bid” for the 23-year-old winger, who has 18 months remaining on his current deal.

The Bristol Post report pragmatism is likely to strike at City and they may have to “entertain bids upwards of £8-10million” if O’Dowda fails to agree the terms of a new deal.

OPINION

It is difficult to see Leeds paying nearly £10million for a winger who was not in the starting XI at City earlier in the season, and who is out of contract in 18 months. Certainly, the Bristol-based outfit are vulnerable to losing one of their prize assets, and the longer he goes without signing a new deal means the less likely he is to stay. David Brooks and Adama Traore both left Championship clubs for £10million-plus fees last summer, but those two attackers are in a higher bracket that O’Dowda, and it’s unlikely Leeds would be willing to stretch much beyond £4million. Bar the £7million Patrick Bamford deal, that has been their ceiling during the Andrea Radrizzani era. O’Dowda has been capped 15 times by Republic of Ireland and is a fine player, but he is not a regular matchwinner at Championship level and his fee should be valued accordingly. Surely, Leeds would be better off forking out £3.5million for Daniel James of Swansea City instead. He is two years younger, 21, blisteringly quick and has the potential to be better than O’Dowda.
