Celtic are in hot pursuit of Olympiakos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui, according to the Express.

The newspaper claims that the Hoops are eyeing up a move for the £4million-rated Norway international as Brendan Rodgers tries to find a new long-term replacement for Mikael Lustig, who is out of contract in the summer.

Elabdellaoui, 27, began his professional career at Premier League giants Manchester City and joined Olympiakos in 2014.

He has made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Greek side this season.

Good move for Celtic?

Elabdellaoui is a good, strong right-back who should be an improvement on what Celtic already have.

Lustig and Cristian Gamboa, whose contract also expires at the end of the season, have both been quite poor for the Bhoys in the last couple of years, so it would make a lot of sense for Rodgers to replace them sooner rather than later.

For £4million, Elabdellaoui represents a decent deal for the Scottish Premiership leaders.

He has plenty of title-winning experience, has earned 34 caps for Norway and regularly plays in European football.

The ex-Man City right-back is just what Rodgers needs.

Likely to happen?

Celtic might avoid trying to sign a right-back in the current transfer window.

They do not need another right-back straight away with Lustig and Gamboa both under contract until the end of the season.

Elabdellaoui is said to be firmly on the Bhoys’ radar, but they could be lining up a move for him in the summer.

It is likely they will only sign him this month if one of Lustig or Gamboa leaves.
