Celtic are expected to announce the signing of American left-back Andrew Gutman in the coming days, according to Stars and Stripes FC.

The reliable American news outlet claims that Gutman, 22, has decided to sign for the Bhoys after snubbing a contract offer from Old Firm rivals Rangers.

It is understood that the Indiana Hoosier defender was also eligible to sign for Chicago Fire as a homegrown player, however he has opted to head to the Scottish Premiership, where he will join up with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Gutman looks set to become Celtic’s fourth signing of the January transfer window, joining Oliver Burke, Vakoun Issouf Bayo and fellow American Timothy Weah in heading to Glasgow’s East End.

Good move for Celtic?

It is hard to see how Gutman is going to get anywhere near to Celtic’s first team with Kieran Tierney and Emilio Izaguirre in the side.

Both have had injury issues lately, but once they are fully bit, they are bound to keep Gutman out of the side, especially as the American left-back has never played a senior game in his entire career.

Gutman’s switch to Parkhead is unlikely to be one that will cost much money, but the Hoops are surely wasting time and resources on someone who is quite clearly not good enough for them.

Likely to happen?

Reports from both sides of the Atlantic are suggesting that this deal is all but done.

Celtic have not confirmed the news yet, but going by this latest update, there should be something officially confirmed soon.
