Celtic must bring in Will Trapp from MLS outfit Colombus Crew as a long term replacement to captain Scott Brown.
The Daily Record reported in December that Brown was being eyed up by new Australian A-League side Western Melbourne as a marquee signing, and rumours have continued to gather pace regarding his departure.
If the 33-year-old does move down under then the Hoops will need a replacement and Trapp fits the bill perfectly.
The defensive midfielder is an integral part of the Crew’s roster, playing 177 times for the American side in all competitions.
A classic midfield battler, the USMNT international is well-suited to breaking up play and facilitating the attacking talents of those around him.
The 25-year-old sparked rumours of his desire to play in Europe by posting a hastily deleted Instagram story showing the Greek passport that he holds by virtue of his grandparents’ nationality, as detailed by the Scotsman.
Any move to Europe would be made a lot simpler by him holding this documentation, and Celtic seem as likely as any side to make a move.
The price would presumably by affordable, and he is just entering his prime as a player.
Brown has been a great servant to the Bhoys but can’t have too much left in the tank, and it’s time that Brendan Rodgers started looking to the future.
