Celtic are looking to convince Yaya Toure to join his brother Kolo at the Glaswegian club on a playing contract until the end of the season, according to Greek outlet Gazzetta.

The 35-year-old has been without a club since leaving Olympiacos earlier in the season, and it is understood that Brendan Rodgers has been trying to use Kolo’s role as a coach with the Hoops to convince Yaya to make a move to Scotland.

Tours left Manchester City at the end of last season having won three Premir League titles with the Blues, but managed only four appearances in Greece before having his contract terminated.

Good move for Celtic?

It depends massively on which Toure the Hoops would be getting. The Yaya of old, a barnstorming, domineering midfielder who would run a midfield with power and intelligence, would be a fantastic addition to any side, and owl make for a real statement of intent form the Bhoys. The Toure of recent times, however, languid and lacking in the qualities that made him one of the greats of the Premier League era, would be less impressive. The Ivorian has been disappointing of late, but with a bit of trust and a measured man management approach, he could still have a lot to offer.

Likely to happen?

Toure is without a club, but has made no secret of his desire to keep playing, and a move that would see him link up with his brother seems as likely as any at the moment. The midfielder has been on astronomical wages in the past, but at this point, he must realise that his value has decreased and that he myst be willing to take a cut to sustain his playing career. If he does, and if Celtic decide he is the right man for the job, then he could make a big impact.
