Blackpool have completed the signing of Newcastle United striker Elias Sorensen on loan until the end of the season, with the 19-year-old suggesting Sean Longstaff was a big influence on his move.

The Seasiders confirmed the news via there official club website on Monday afternoon.

Sorensen has netted 19 goals already this campaign for the Magpies’ reserve side and will follow in the footsteps of teammate Longstaff, who also spent time with Blackpool before making his breakthrough into Rafa Benitez’s first team plans.

The Danish youth international has admitted that his colleague was an influence on his decision to choose the club.

He said: “I spoke to him about it [this move] and he liked it when he was here. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me as well.”

OPINION

This move could be the making of Sorensen. The young Dane is a huge talent and could go all the way to the very top, but he needs regular senior game time now, and a move to League One will provide him with exactly the kind of learning curve he needs. There has been talk, especially amongst fans, of giving him a run in the Newcastle side this season, but at 19 he still has a lot to learn, and chucking him in at the deep end of the Premier League might have been more detrimental than anything else. This way he will get to grow and develop away from the harsh glare of a top tier relegation battle, and he will surely come back as a vastly improved proposition. There are plenty of reasons to be very excited about the 19-year-old, and this move will represent the first step on a promising football journey. Patience will be the best approach with his progression, and measured management now could potentially yield massive results in the relatively near future.
