Antonio Barreca is due in for a medical with Newcastle tomorrow, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.
He said that Sky Italy have told him that Barreca will have his medical tomorrow ahead of a loan deal from Monaco with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.
This news comes after it was reported that MLS attacker Miguel Almiron was also due for a medical ahead of a possible club record move, as Newcastle step up a late transfer blizzard.
Downie made the claim just before the final whistle in an incredible game at St James’ Park tonight.
Protests turned to wild celebrations as Newcastle came from behind to beat Man City 2-1 with a late Matt Ritchie goal clinching the three points for Rafa Benitez’s men.

Newcastle fans will be in dreamland tonight. Three points against Man City, a potential club record deal for Benitez’s number one target Miguel Almiron and 23-year-old left-back Barreca coming in for a medical as well. Go back just 24 hours and none of this would have seemed likely, and maybe the three points against Man City the most unlikely of all! As it is, Newcastle fans will be streaming out of St James’ Park to the news that they might have a double transfer to look forward to, with both deals looking likely to get tied up on Wednesday, a whole 24 hours before the transfer deadline day. If any fans deserve it though, it’s Newcastle’s. They’ve had a torrid time recently and no matter the good news this week, they’ve still got Mike Ashley as their owner. That fight’s for another day though. Tonight, Newcastle fans can bask in a triple hit of good news that could see two quality new players arriving in 24 hours.
