OPINION
If this doesn’t prove that Dean Smith needs a new left-back, nothing will. Neil Taylor has had shocker after shocker for Aston Villa this season, so it is understandable to see some fans tearing him to shreds for his display in the 3-0 defeat to Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday. He was beaten way too easily for the Latics’ opening goal, in what was an all too familiar sight for the Villa supporters. He is only getting into the side right now because he is the only left-back at the club, but Kortney Hause is able to play in that role if Smith wants to roll the dice and drop Taylor because the Wolves loanee is left-footed and has played there in the past. Luckily for Smith it is the January transfer window and he still has a couple of weeks to sign a new left-back. It has been an issue for Villa all season. Taylor can’t play there and Alan Hutton shouldn’t even be considered to play there. Don’t get rid of Taylor, just drop him and keep him as back-up to a new left-back.
