OPINION

If Aston Villa do make the play-offs this season the first man they will thank will be Tammy Abraham. The on-loan striker has been in magnificent form in front of goal, and notched his 18th and 19th goals of the season in the 2-1 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday. Abraham is in absolutely lethal form, and without him, it’s difficult to see where Villa would get their goals from. This season, after a mixed spell at Swansea City last year, he looks as if he has grown into a complete forward, capable of moments of magic, as well as doing the hard graft that allows his teammates to profit from his hold up play. The 21-year-old has been so good this season that parent club Chelsea must be looking at him and wondering if he is finally ready to have a crack at the big time. It would be a big ask, and big leap for the young man, but on the evidence of his all-round play this campaign, he at least deserves a chance in the first team set up. If not, then he could be at heart of an almighty tussle for his services at the end of his time at Villa Park.
